Tending the heart’s wise, wild grace.

What is “Wild Grace”?

When I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at six months old, the story the doctors then told my parents was that I may never walk, talk, or live a normal life. From this early age, they chose to raise me with an open, accepting and courageous heart. They also gave me a middle name of ‘Grace.’ As a child, my aunt bestowed upon me the nickname ‘Wild Kayla.’ This nickname encouraged me to take risks and be myself: full of joy, love and bold bravery. Faith and spirituality have always been central for me, guiding me and bringing comfort and community into my life in beautifully unexpected ways.

Over the years this understanding of wild grace has evolved. While ‘wild’ began as a small encouragement from my aunt, it’s grown into a rich framework for living from a place of authentic, embodied compassion and courage.  As I wrote in a newsletter for Her Way of Love, “Telling our sacred stories is a wild, holy act of love. When we tell our stories from a place of authenticity, we bless the world. In this act we honor the resilience and beauty of God’s creation, for each of us is always becoming who we are.” Grace is the liberating, soothing breath of the divine that gives us life and hope. Our world constantly tells us we are not good enough. Having grace with ourselves along our paths is just one way we can live with wild grace.

My hope for this Wild Grace Writings space is that through my reflections, poetry, and spiritual direction you may find a safe space of encouragement to explore and cultivate your own wild, grace-filled story.

Four year old me running directly to the Beast at a local meet and greet soon after I started walking. Belle broke character and informed my mom that I was the only child to embrace the Beast.

Wild grace

Grounded in grace.

Rooted in me.

My story of becoming-

already beloved

is wild beauty

springing forth through

silence,

chaos.

Like stars in the night

truths are revealed.

My journey continues.

Renewed by grace.

Rooted in me.

A story is written;

my story is etched

for the earth to know.

Through silence,

in chaos

divinity breathes today-

forever.

I am grounded with wild grace.
