golden butterflies

My winter shaped up to bring a new opportunity for work, service and community into my life. This is a blessing for me. In January I began a volunteer creative writing fellowship with a local non profit mentoring middle school students for the semester. This transformed into a wonderfully meaningful part time job for the spring. The young people I’m mentoring are immensely creative and inspiring. Their writings are authentic and bold.

With this new beginning, processing my pandemic season has been the brunt of my writing. A lot of the writing is personal and private, however, recently I’ve been noticing images that have illuminated various pieces of my story in ways that I hope will become writings I can share with you. Cocoons, yellow butterflies and spring are some such images. Following the creative writing workshops over the past couple of weeks I was inspired to craft this haiku. My hope is that it will become a gateway into a pandemic season piece.
