What brings you peace? How can you allow yourself to let go and be present this Advent?

This Advent, after a long year of doing, moving, and discerning, I’ve been invited to “get caught up with myself,” as a dear friend encouraged me recently. Normally I am self aware and intentional about being rather than doing. However, with all of the noise of this year, it wasn’t until my spiritual director reflected back to me all that I’ve sifted through this year, did I realize how much I long for rest. How much I desire to just listen and sit with God as my prayer, letting the wonder of the season bless me.

Last year I began an Advent tradition for myself of reflecting on joyful memories and loved ones during the upcoming third week focused on joyful preparation. As I’ve reflected on being present this Advent, a deepening of the blessing I wrote for this tradition has taken on a peaceful presence this year. May we always remember and honor Emmanuel, God with us.

Stars of Emmanuel

My hopes, my stars

shining with me

lighting my way

preparing the way.

Be with me this season-

throughout life.

Memories

 dear ones

who see me

and

love me-

 for me.

Remind me of how I belong.

Here. Today.

With my stars

with creation

we journey together

we let go together

we become together.

Twinkling peacefully in the darkened sky

I rest in gratitude waiting for Emmanuel.
