Identity Dancing

What does the phrase ‘becoming who you are’ mean for you? What practices bring you deep joy?
We are constantly transforming, adapting and creating. Our lives are a journey of becoming who we are today, in this moment, and who we were created to be. This journey of self discovery and growth often feels like we’re dancing! Dancing is something that has brought me deep joy since I was a child, after I started walking at the age of three. I jotted this poem down in my journal recently as I was contemplating my story of self discovery, and how I understand myself as I learn and grow. What traits do I notice within me that are consistent? How have my core values shifted and deepened throughout my life? What remains present? What can I let go of? As I reflected, this poem joyfully skipped right out of me.
My Identity Dance
Divinely human
seeking renewal
on a pilgrimage of
catholic liminal light
always becoming
my heart beats for goodness
she beats for delight
choreographing words
that echo my truth
my voice
my presence
breathing in resilient radiance
breathing out steadfast shame
universally rooted + intentionally embodied
my anointed life; unique.
